Palm Inc to Retire handheld devices

Important Message to all Profitlink customers

Date: 04/03/2009
Author: Barry Mathot

Palm Inc. has retired several of its handheld devices including the following models...

* Z22
* Tungsten E2
* T|X
* Treo 680

This decision has been made largely as a result of Palm’s commercial success in the smartphone market. Whilst Palm is not in the habit of officially announcing product retirements, this information was recently provided to Profitlink. The impact of these retirements has already been felt in the greater channel and availability of these units is extremely limited.

Purchasing Palm Devices...
Profitlink has been able to acquire a limited supply of T|X and Treo 680 devices for its customers. Unfortunately we have been unable to acquire Tungsten E2 devices for further resale. If you are interested in stocking up on these items, we strongly recommend you place an order for these devices ASAP to avoid disappointment. You may place an order by contacting Jenny at Profitlink on 03 8786 7774.

Palm Inc. Future Plans...
Palm Aust. revealed their greater plan is to retire their involvement in the Palm operating system altogether. Palm will focus their resources on releasing a new web enabled operating system, aptly named Web OS in the near future as well as creating devices for this new platform. The Palm OS Centro device will continue to be supplied for most of this year, as it has a substantial worldwide popularity.

Mobileezy ...
As the mobileezy range of software is supported on both Palm OS and Windows Mobile platforms, the Palm Inc. announcement in no way affects Profitlink’s ability to support the mobileezy solution on a wide range of devices. Janam, a manufacturer of ruggedised Palm OS devices has no plans to discontinue its range of Palm devices for years to come.
